Eating Vegan in Denver, Colorado

Denver has a diverse selection of vegan food options.  From bakeries, international foods, donut shops, and southern comfort foods, Denver is the place to eat!  Here is the list of places that we tried out :

Watercourse Foods (834 E 17th Street) - Probably one of our favorite places that we've ever eaten.  Watercourse serves up southern comfort food like we've never tasted.  We ordered the southern plate, biscuits and gravy (and yes, breakfast is served all day long), the blackened Caesar wrap, the mac 'n' cheese, & the big rig.  The southern comfort plate was crispy breaded cauliflower with a side of mashed potatoes and gravy, served with a kale, beet, & fried garbanzo bean salad.  It is out of this world amazing!  The biscuits and gravy are just like you think they would be, peppery, creamy & delicious.  The blackened Caesar wrap was delicious, the Caesar dressing was amazing and tofu was perfectly cooked.  The mac 'n' cheese is creamy and addictive.  Our toddler ate his entire bowl full!  If you're craving breakfast, order the Big Rig.  Country fried seitan steak and gravy, served with scrambled tofu and home fries.  It is to die for!

City O' City (206 E 13th Avenue) - This place is trendy, fun and definitely tasty.  We ordered the chicken & waffles, traditional style and the bbq bowl.  The traditional chicken & waffles are served with a savory waffle with maple syrup, breaded and fried cauliflower and chive crème fraiche with carrot bacon.  The syrup adds the sweetness that ties all of the other foods together.  The carrot bacon is so delicious that I wished they offered an entire plate full of them to dip into the savory crème fraiche.  The bbq bowl is mac & cheese with bbq tofu, savory greens, and creamy coleslaw.  The mac & cheese is perfection along with the creamy coleslaw.  The bbq'd tofu was just the right touch to add to this dish.  Perfection.

Tarasco's New Latino Cuisine (470 S Federal Boulevard) - The best food comes from the smallest family owned restaurants and Tarasco's is one of them.  Their menu offers meat, dairy & vegan options.  But the vegan options are incredible and plenty to choose from.  If you haven't tried fried cactus (), do it!  We ordered the tamales de elote and the huaraches plazero.  The tamales de elote was so good that I wish I ordered two plates full.  The plate come with handmade corn tamales with salsa verde, beans & rice.  The huaraches plazero was so good, definitely our toddlers favorite meal.  The plate comes with carrots and potatoes on a thick handmade deep fried corn tortilla with beans and salsa verde.

Voodoo Doughnut Mile High (1520 E Colfax Avenue) - Voodoo is always on our list of places to go whenever we're in Denver or Portland.  They offer a wide selection of vegan doughnuts and we can never order enough!  Some of our favorites include the voodoo doll, the grape ape, the vegan oreo, & the apple fritter.
